Khulu’ is a wife-initiated release with a distinct religious basis and process.

Current ISCN Position

  • The wife is not required to detail complaints as a condition of requesting Khulu’.
  • The husband’s primary financial right is recovery of the Mahr originally paid.
  • Khulu’ is irrevocable and is not counted as one of the husband’s three Talaqs.
  • The waiting period is one menstrual cycle.

Process

  1. Application and documents.
  2. Administrative review and interview.
  3. Notification to the husband.
  4. Review by the Islamic Adjudication Council (Majlis al-Shura).
  5. Issuance and post-Khulu’ guidance.

Published fee: the current starting total is £700, comprising a £500 starting fee and £200 casework credit. The initial review confirms whether Khulu’ is the appropriate route.
